A 1,400 sq. ft. meditation space was added to this large, vibrant Catholic church. As an expansion of the interior gathering space to the outdoors, the prayer grotto had to be useful and inviting both day and night and serve various social and liturgical functions in a suburban setting. For the Spectrum Engineers’ lighting team, simplicity in design and appearance was key to creating lighting that enhances this peaceful space, illuminates scriptural references and enhances illustrative sculptures. Opportunities for donations were recognized through donor bricks, which were carefully and tastefully lighted. The grotto’s beauty and its outdoor location are revealed through vandal-resistant yet decorative lighting.
