St. George, Utah
This project is a new state courthouse in St. George, Utah, totaling 95,550 sq.
ft. with a construction cost of approximately $27 million. Spectrum Engineers provided
MEP/T (mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology engineering), fire protection
engineering (atrium smoke exhaust) and acoustical engineering services. Technology
systems designed by Spectrum include audio/video, court control, CCTV and security
systems. The building houses eight courtrooms with audio/video systems, judges’
chambers, offices (including probation offices), detention, clerk and storage space
and a backup data center for the State of Utah Courts System. Spectrum designed
backup power systems to ensure the reliability of the data center. The site for
the new courthouse was home to an elementary school that had to remain in operation
until December 2007, increasing scheduling challenges for the design and construction
teams. The courthouse project included coordinating street lamp design, landscape
features and pedestrian and vehicle access points with a planned community plaza
adjacent to the courthouse site.
