Park City, Utah
Spectrum Engineers provided consulting electrical engineering and lighting design
for this 10,000 sq. ft. nature education visitor center that achieved LEED®
Platinum and includes museum-quality exhibits. Spectrum designed a nominal 6 kW
solar photovoltaic array utilizing 33 rooftop modules generating approximately 11,000
kWh per year. The project gained all three LEED® points under the Onsite Renewable
Energy Credits section for LEED® documentation. Lighting includes the most
energy-efficient lamps, ballasts and lighting controls. The building consumes less
than 1 Watt per square foot for lighting power (well below the allowed lighting
power density per the latest energy code). Exterior lighting meets the strictest
dark skies rules, making the EcoCenter a good nighttime neighbor. The EcoCenter
is a winner of the 2009 ACEC Engineering Excellence Honor Award and a 2009 Governor’s
Quality Growth Award.
