Spectrum Engineers produces 3D and building information models allowing mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems to be designed, viewed, altered and updated as they interact with each other, the architecture and the structural elements. BIM uses this knowledge to model the way these systems would interact in real situations. For example, as mechanical engineers design and alter HVAC systems, changes made once in the software are made everywhere and are available to the whole team. An electrical engineer is able to set BIM software to automatically update power requirements each time mechanical engineers alter their systems. Information is disseminated automatically and is available to affected parties sooner and capacities are calculated automatically helping engineers focus on designing optimal systems for each building and catching potential conflicts at early stages—especially important to maintaining budgets and schedules on today’s complex facilities.
