The four-story, 56,667 sq. ft. Meldrum Science Center at Westminster College features
the best in sustainable design to achieve LEED® Platinum and real payback in operational
costs. Spectrum Engineers provided lighting design, structured cabling design and
audio/video consulting for the owner-provided and –installed A/V systems as well
as electrical engineering, which included design of the 21 kW rooftop, grid-tied
solar photovoltaic (PV) array using 90+ 230 watt panels and three inverters. The
four-level Science Center houses 14 multidisciplinary classrooms with integrated
laboratories and dedicated research labs allowing professors and students to move
seamlessly between theory and application. “Science on Display” areas provide interactive
learning opportunities. Daylight is used on all perimeter classrooms, labs and offices.
The central circulation core is flooded with controlled daylight from skylights.
