The Wetlands Discovery Lab is a 3,200 sq. ft. hands-on nature discovery facility
operated by Utah State University. It houses a classroom and offices as well as
restroom facilities and showers, a mechanical room and storage areas. A glass hallway
offers views of and information about the wetland area and connects the Discovery
Lab to a boardwalk that takes visitors across portions of the wetlands including
a pond. The Discovery Point earned LEED® Platinum and features sustainable building
materials. It is designed to conserve energy through high-efficiency systems, design
and materials. Spectrum Engineers provided electrical engineering including the
design of the 12 kV photovoltaic array, which provides solar water heating and solar
power generation for the building. Water conservation techniques include rainwater
harvesting. A ground-source heat pump is included for heating and cooling in addition
to in-floor radiant heating and natural ventilation with ceiling fans.
