Utah State Fifth District Courthouse

Utah State Fifth District Courthouse

This State courthouse in St. George, Utah, totals 95,550 square feet with a construction cost of approximately $27 million. The building houses eight courtrooms with audio/video systems, judges’ chambers, offices (including probation offices), detention, clerk and storage space and a backup data center for the State of Utah Courts System. Spectrum Engineers designed backup power systems to help ensure the reliability of the data center. Technology systems designed by Spectrum include audio/video, court control, CCTV and security systems.

The site for the courthouse was home to an elementary school that had to remain in operation during part of the construction process, increasing scheduling challenges for the design and construction teams. The courthouse project included coordinating street lamp design, landscape features and pedestrian and vehicle access points with a community plaza adjacent to the courthouse site.

Courthouses are exceptional projects because they require extensive security and audio/visual technology, and have high-reliability requirements.  Spectrum worked hard with State and Courthouse leaders to ensure the city of St. George ended up with a state of the art courthouse that would be committed to the justice system.."
