University of Utah SJ Quinney College of Law

The construction of a new 156,000 square-foot, six-level law building, this project included innovative sustainable features such as translucent photovoltaic panels making up the roof canopy, integrated lighting controls, integrated shade systems, 100% LED lighting throughout, and electric car-charging stations. The project was designed to meet LEED Silver requirements

with on-site energy and measurement and verification systems in place. Power distribution included relocation of 15kV medium voltage duct bank, two 15kV-fed distribution transformers, and a large standby diesel generator system. Innovative lighting solutions were required for the six-story atrium space.

It was a building in which we were able to creatively meet the needs of the students and faculty while simultaneously pushing the sustainability envelope.Chris Kobayashi
