Intermountain Healthcare Primary Children's Medical Center George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Outpatient Services Building and Parking Structure

The Primary Children’s Medical Center Outpatient Services Building opened its doors to new patients in October 2014. The 240,000 sq. ft. addition houses 32 clinics, 67 new exam rooms, and dozens of offices for staff members. The $134 million addition also helps clinicians and researchers collaborate after many years of being located in separate parts of the city. This collaboration assists both clinicians and researchers understand the diseases, and injuries their patients suffer from and help find new and improved ways of treatment.

Spectrum Engineers designed the entire power distribution system including internal and external lighting, overhead paging system, security access control, structured cabling, nurse call system, video surveillance, and television distribution system.

The outpatient services building is LEED Silver, making it one of the more energy efficient buildings in the area. The new outpatient services building also provides a “Kids Club” sibling area, allowing parents to drop off other children during exams and surgeries.

The Primary Children’s Medical Center Outpatient Services Building includes a 300-foot sky bridge over Mario Capecchi Drive that connects to the existing hospital.

Also, an essential additional structure adjacent to the Primary Children’s Medical Center Outpatient Services Building is the new parking building. The new parking building provides over 900 additional stalls for employees who otherwise had to ride the shuttle in from remote parking stations.

What this additional building did was separate the hospital and the clinical outpatient services. By doing so each entity has more ideal working space.Jeff Richards, P.E., LEED AP, Spectrum Engineers
