Salt Lake City, Utah
Spectrum Engineers provided electrical and acoustical engineering and technology
and lighting design for this 88,000 sq. ft., $7.7 million prototype elementary school.
Accommodating 800 students in a high-tech environment, Whittier boasts a central
library, amphitheaters, group instruction rooms and 31 classrooms with "mini-computer
labs." Electrical engineering involves centralized core design and met or exceeded
energy codes. Sophisticated and efficient lighting complements direct/indirect sunlight.
A unique, dual-sided stage system required specialized power, lighting and acoustics.
The central electrical/technology room with rack system housing electronic components
allows school-wide media distribution via a mezzanine cable tray system. Classroom
"mini-hub closets" distribute fiber to classroom computers, which remotely control
centralized electronic devices. Group instruction rooms offer ceiling-mounted projection
screens and A/V systems. Spectrum designed the integrated intercom and security
systems, also.
