South Ogden, Utah
This is a 21,033 sq. ft., $4.8 million facility for which Spectrum Engineers provided
electrical and acoustical engineering and lighting and technology design. Spectrum’s
lighting team was charged with maintaining the open feel of the architecture, bringing
intimacy to the space as desired and providing lighting that addresses functions
ranging from worship to education. Spectrum balanced the visual task of reading
scriptures with the large volume, controlling the lighting appropriately, enhancing
architecture and symbolism, capitalizing on daylighting opportunities, designing
custom fixtures to serve multiple purposes and to complement the architecture, and
respecting budgets. All lights are on dimmers to increase lamp life and programmed
on easy-to-use controls. Architectural acoustics and sound systems help create a
reverent, intelligible worship experience. Holy Family is the winner of Spectrum’s
second international GE Edison Award for Excellence in Environmental Design.
