The $42.5 million, 111,000 sq. ft. (new construction) and 17,000 sq. ft. (remodeled space) initial phase of the Eccles Critical Care Pavilion addition to Building 525 at University Hospital was completed in 2003. It included 26 new surgical ICU beds, two new helipads, six ORs and a new emergency department. A parking structure was also added. Spectrum provided electrical engineering (medium voltage distribution upgrade, emergency power, secondary services and distribution), technology design (CCTV, intrusion detection, card access, nurse call, voice/data, intercom and paging, fire alarm, access control) and lighting design (interior and exterior lighting and lighting controls) design. In 2007, and as part of a major, $200+ million expansion to the University Hospital, a vertical expansion added two floors with ICU beds and 58,000 sq. ft. to the Critical Care Pavilion. Again in 2007, a 114,000 sq. ft., one-level addition to the Critical Care parking structure required relocating the helipad, which is one of the nation’s largest, to the new top level of the structure. Spectrum provided electrical engineering and related services for these expansion projects as well.
