For online retailers like Overstock.com, downtime and lost data can mean millions of dollars in lost revenue. Data center speed, reliability and security are critical. Spectrum Engineers designed high-quality, ultra-reliable electrical systems and specified top manufactures for each element of this nearly 10,000 sq. ft. facility, which brings much-needed Tier IV Level data center capacity to Utah. This showcase electrical project involved a short timeline, huge scope with very limited space and an owner with a vision. Spectrum Engineers specified and designed 2N redundant distribution including two utility transformers, metering switchboards, distribution equipment, transfer switches, UPS systems and power distribution units. This means that from the cord at the equipment rack all the way back to the utility transformer there is a separate redundant path of equipment, helping to minimize a single point of failure in the data center. The data center was substantially complete in 10 months total design and construction time, an unheard-of timeline. Contractors and designers met every week to quickly resolve issues to allow progress to continue.
